No human being is raised to commit egregious acts against other human beings, e.g.,
abuse children, women, old
ladies or helpless individuals!
Likewise, no human being is raised to
murder children, women, his or her parents — or become a
serial killer or
rapist!
Yet, individuals prone to commit such atrocities exist! Why?
To begin with, human beings are "
choicelessly conceived"! They do not create themselves
— nor do they
choose their parents!
In addition, human beings do not choose their
unpredictable,
atavistic,
genetic traits —
inherited from their parents — that define individuals as
identically different from every other and
will determine their existence.
The following is a brief list of
inherited genetic traits:
- race and gender
- when or where they are born
- the environment they are raised in
- mannerisms, pride, character, honesty, vices
- their level of intelligence, talents
- application of their intelligence as they age
- health, physical and mental attributes
- emotions, temperament, behavior, addictions
- empathy, prejudices, inhospitable or friendly tendencies
- reactions to perceived experiences
- worldview, countless other traits
Moreover, though
genetic traits control human beings' reactions to their
perceived experiences, other
factors also play a role in their reactions:
- age and maturity
- possibly unexpected situations at the time:
a. mental or physical conditions
b. location, bystanders
c. unpleasant encounter
d. epidemic or natural disaster
Further, restrained by their
genetic destiny, whether they be
hampered by extraneous control
or not, regardless of motives or consequences, whether
beneficial or injurious to themselves and/or
others, it is not rare for individuals to indulge in
unexpected,
impromptu or
planned acts.
Even after having professed the "immutability" of their long-lived beliefs or principles,
for self-serving
reasons, without compunction or shame, some individuals have no difficulty "changing sides"!
Additionally, fully aware of the lethallity of their addictions, controlled by their
genetic destiny, countless chain
smokers, alcoholics and drug addicts
will not quit their self-destroying habits.
They cannot help it!
In essence, the unpredictable,
genetic destiny of human beings can only be described as an amalgam of traits that
challenges accurate predictions of their character,
behavioral capacities or furtive intensions.
To be sure,
accurately predicting why, when, where or how human beings will react or commit any sort
of act or attrocity can only be understood as
conjectural, i.e.,
a guess!
As it relates to human beings, if controlling their behaviour is the object,
irrespective of age, personal or familial reputation, social station, wealth or proneness to engage in
desirable
or
egregious behavior,
WORDS are no match for their
genetic destiny!
Scrutinizing our own
traits and those
knowable traits of our parents, siblings and friends, the foregoing
statements should be inarguable.
Conclusion
- The takeaway: unless human beings are in the throes of extraneous
forces — a depression, epidemic, natural disaster, war, etc. — and are free to act as they please,
they are inclined to concentrate on their own economic interests and/or prejudicial behavior.
- Winning elections requires convincing consistent and stay-at-home voters
to come and hear words about issues they believe will benefit them!
- It is wise to "avoid identity issues" and biased, one-sided
words if "the other side" is in the audience.
- Words must be truthful but cannot include issues that might
"upset" the audience's prejudial or economy-centered sensibilities.
- Emotional, if-you-don't-like-it-lump-it rhetoric is not wise.
- As difficult as some individuals might find it, acknowledging "the other side's pet
issues" and assuaging their fears is wise.
