Americans have not had to fight for their rights and
FREEDOMS since the end of
WWII, in 1945.
During the
war years, it was Americans'
coexistense — democracy's
sine qua non
— that made the defeat of the
Axis Powers possible.
Coexistense is a tacit agreement made by the members of a society who wish to coexist peacefully.
Despite their differences, they understand the fact that no democracy can endure without its own "covenant"
of
coexistense!
In fact since
1776,
coexistense has been
the glue that has bonded our democracy,
kept Americans
FREE and made America the respected, "go-to-country"
of the world.
Despite a few "bumps-on-the-road", for about 2½ centuries, bravery, patriotism, decorum,
moral values and
coexistense have preserved our hollowed
Constitution, our
FREEDOMS — and kept Americans safe and secure!
Furthermore, "live-and-let-live"
coexistense actually benefits
ALL Americans in many
other ways: economically, militarily, agriculturally, artistically and in other ways that make our way or life of possible.
The
labor sources, creative abilities and professional skills that every group can offer, are integral parts of the goods
and services that societies depend on for their subsistence.
A New Era
Let's face it: we are now living in
a new era — an era when, with few exceptions,
post-war-born
Americans are ignorant of their country's past history and are more concerned with their personal material needs than
our national unity, i.e.,
coexistense — nothing to be proud of!
Now that we have
voluntary military service — taking their rights and
FREEDOMS
for granted, post-war-born Americans remain oblivious to the reality that their
FREEDOMS are
teetering on the abyss.
What's more, prejudiced or not, a great number of individuals are not averse to blaming "
not-my-own-kind
individuals" (the "
enemy") for their own failures — and see
banishment as their
problems' solution.
Enmity aside, the reality is that, like it or not,
subsistence in a
FREE SOCIETY requires
its
multiethnic,
religious and
political groups to tacitly accept
coexsistense with their
"
Enemies" — which can only bring unity and strength to our divided nation.
Conclusion
Restoring a real sense of
coexistense — which is imperative to the endurance of our beleaguered
democracy — requires understanding and taking
unbiased action that appeals to "what's-in-it-for-me" minds!
