Coexistense
Historically, Coexistense has been democracy's sine qua non!

Coexistense is a tacit agreement made by the members of a society who, despite their differences, wish to coexist peacefully.  They understand that no democracy can endure without its own covenant of coexistense!

Since 1776, such a covenant has been the glue that has bonded our democracy, kept Americans FREE — and made our nation the world-respected, Arsenal of Democracy which saved the world from the tyrannical Axis Powers in World War II.

A New Era

Let's face it: nowadays, most Americans are ignorant of their country's past history — nothing to be proud of!

They are unaware of the sacrifices that Americans have made in the past to keep our nation free — especially the 400,000+ Americans who died defending democracy in Europe and Asia in WWII!

Since Americans have not had to fight for their rights and freedoms since 1945, now that we have voluntary military service, post-war-born Americans are now more concerned with their personal material needs and finacial well-being than our national unity, i.e., coexistense!

Moreover, always wary of economic hiccups that might upset their plans, well-to-do Americans spend time growing their wealth and supporting any deceiving "wannabe leader" who will protect/increase their wealth!

In the process, prejudiced or not, a great number of individuals are not averse to blaming "not-my-own-kind-Americans" (the "enemy") for their own failures — and see banishment as the solution to their problems.

Of course, the thought of literally banishing any ethnic, religious or political group from its own country is not realistic, possible and, eventually, could only cause an economic disaster for all.

In fact, unbeknownst to them, despite their adversarial propensities, a "tacit interdependence-between-enemies" has existed among these inimical factions throughout history!

That interdependence has benefitted societies of all types and, in various ways — economically and otherwise — has made their live-and-let-live state of coexistense possible.

The labor sources, creative abilities and professional skills that every group can offer, are integral parts of the goods and services that societies depend on for their subsistence.

The reality is that, like it or not, to subsist in a free democratic society, its adversarial groups must tacitly ACCEPT and COEXIST!

That being the case, a tacit, unemotional, "bite-the-bullet" attitude would help mitigate the instability that threatens our coexistense and hinders the endurance of our democracy.

Conclusion

Realistically, our nation's multiethnicity, its plethora of religious and political views, plus countless personal grievances, pose extremely serious impediments to the endurance of our nation's tacit, long-lived, covenant of coexistense.

These impediments will NOT disappear on their own or be "talked-away" with wishful, well-meaning words!

In fact, restoring a real sense of coexistense — which is imperative to the endurance of our beleaguered democracy — requires understanding and taking unbiased action that appeals to these "What's-in-it-for-me?" groups' impregnable mindsets!
